Johnny Gaudreau's wife Meredith reacts in four words to ex-Flames star's quote on family written in his letter to Calgary
Late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau played nine seasons for the Calgary Flames before making his move to the Blue Jackets. One of his heartfelt statements from a letter written to Calgary has surfaced on the internet, and Johnny’s wife Meredith had a moving response to it.
On Tuesday, Meredith Gaudreau reshared an Instagram post from a fan account on her stories. The original post shared a quote by the former Calgary Flames star, taken from his letter to the club:
“But as much as I love hockey, family is everything to me. It's the most important connection I have. And a few years ago, I think I started to realize how much you sacrifice when you give 100% to your career. I felt like I needed to do more to center my family in my life after we experienced some hard times.”
While reposting it on her Instagram stories, Meredith wrote in the caption:
“My perfect husband forever”
Johnny’s sister Katie Gaudreau also reshared the post on her stories. She quoted Johnny’s touching lines from the letter:
“Family is everything to me.”
Johnny and his brother Matthew passed away in August. They were hit by a truck while they were cycling in Salem County.
Johnny Gaudreau’s family faced man responsible for Gaudreau brothers’ death in court
On Tuesday, the Gaudreau family faced the man accused of causing their deaths. Sean Higgins, charged with fatally striking the Gaudreau brothers as they cycled along a New Jersey road near their family home on August 29, appeared in person for the first time in court. Previously, Higgins had attended hearings virtually from jail.
The judge extended the timeframe for prosecutors to secure an indictment against Higgins. Witnesses testified that Higgins, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, had been driving aggressively before the collision.
Authorities confirmed his blood-alcohol content was .087, exceeding New Jersey’s legal limit of .08. He allegedly consumed six beers before driving and failed a sobriety test at the scene. Higgins is charged with two counts of death by auto, reckless driving, and possession of an open container.
Witness accounts further suggested a history of reckless behavior, with one driver noting that she observed Higgins speeding past her to overtake the brothers. Higgins allegedly ignored this precaution and accelerated around them, resulting in the tragic collision.
