Johnny Gaudreau's wife Meredith shares heartfelt message for "whole NHL and hockey family"
Meredith Gaudreau, wife of late Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau, expressed gratitude for the support from the hockey community. She shared a clip from the "Missin Curfew Podcast" in which the host hosts Scottie Upshall talked to guest Jordan Schmaltz and praised the hockey community's response toward the Gaudreau family and Meredith.
Meredith shared the clip on her Instagram story on Sunday and thanked the NHL and hockey family. Meredith wrote:
"Whole NHL and hockey family taking really good care of all of us."
In the clip, Upshall said:
"The hockey family in general is such a tight-knit family... It's like if anything ever happened to these guys, man, you hope that the whole support becomes worldwide with it."
"To hear the chants of Johnny Hockey towards the end of the game and the Flames to win like that, and for them all to be part of it, is really special. It just makes you feel good that you're part of that big family."
The tribute by the Calgary Flames on Dec. 3, honoring Johnny Gaudreau, who played for the team for nine seasons, was especially touching. Johnny was named the first star of the game in the presence of his entire family, including his wife Meredith and children Noa and Johnny Jr. His father, Guy, even took to the ice to wave to the crowd for their appreciation. Flames fans chanted "Johnny Hockey" during the game, paying tribute to his time with the team.
Jordan Schmaltz also talked about Johnny Gaudreau's wife Meredith
Following Scottie Upshall's comments on Johnny Gaudreau's family receiving love from fans, Jordan Schmaltz also talked about Johnny's wife Meredith. He admired Meredith's strength, saying:
"The way Meredith Gaudreau was so composed and was able to get through that interview just shows the strength she has. I mean, there's not a day that goes by that I'm not thinking about that family... But I thought the coolest thing was she got that tattoo done in Calgary, where she said that John's autograph kind of took off and started to become a thing...I just thought that was so cool and so touching."
Meredith got a tattoo in Calgary under bracelets Johnny had gifted her.
"It is definitely a tough time for that family, and I just hope the best for them," Schmaltz said.
Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew tragically passed away on Aug. 29 in a bike accident in New Jersey. The driver involved faces charges, and the investigation is ongoing. Meredith’s heartfelt message shows how much the NHL community means to the Gaudreau family during this time.
