Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, shared a heartwarming moment on her Instagram story. She showed Calgary Flames legend Lanny MacDonald’s growing bond with her young son, Johnny Edward Gaudreau. Hockeyfights initially shared the touching post on their Instagram page, featuring a photo of Lanny McDonald holding baby John.
Meredith’s story captioned the photo, sharing a sweet anecdote:
"He walked him around for almost an hour until he fell asleep."
This moment follows the Flames’s tribute to Johnny Gaudreau, who passed away in August. On Tuesday, the team held a special ceremony at Scotiabank Saddledome to honor Johnny. The ceremony included a ceremonial face-off between Johnny’s close friend and former teammate, Sean Monahan, and Flames captain Mikael Backlund. Johnny’s family was also present to witness the tribute.
The tribute took place during the visit of the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team Johnny was traded to in 2022. The ceremonial face-off brought together players from both teams who had played with Johnny, uniting them in support of the Gaudreau family. The event also allowed the Gaudreau family to reconnect with the Calgary crowd, where Johnny spent nearly 10 years of his career.
The tragedy struck the Gaudreau family when Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were fatally hit by a drunk driver while biking in New Jersey. The incident has profoundly impacted the NHL community. Since then, many tributes have come from across the league.
Meredith Gaudreau announced pregnancy with third child during Johnny Gaudreau’s memorial
During her husband’s memorial on Sept. 9, Meredith Gaudreau announced she was pregnant with their third child. She shared the surprise with mourners, saying Johnny was excited about the news.
“We’re actually a family of five,” Meredith said (via globalnews.com). I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby. A total surprise, but again, John was beaming and so excited.”
Meredith also spoke about their two young children and the blessing of growing their family.
“I was so nervous because this [pregnancy] was, again, a total surprise," Meredith said. "But his reaction was just immediately kissing me and hugging me even though I was driving the car. After the initial excitement sank in, every time he looked at me, he would say, ‘You’re nuts, you know that? Three kids?’”
She also remembered Johnny’s love for family, noting how he helped with their children even on game days. Meredith lastly thanked Calgary fans for their support, pointing out the strong bond Johnny Gaudreau had with the city.
