"Just beyond disgusted": YouTuber drops brutally honest take on NY Rangers after Kaapo Kakko's trade to Seatle Kraken
Count hockey YouTuber Eck among those who are disappointed with the New York Rangers trading Kaapo Kakko. The content creator, who has over 139,000 subscribers, shared a video on Wednesday where he said he would be embarrassed to be part of the Rangers organization.
According to Eck, New York should have been a Stanley Cup contender after dumping some bad contracts, but has become unwatchable.
"Just beyond disgusted," Eck captioned.
However, all of the struggles pale in comparison to the Kakko situation.
"What actually has me even more embarrassed is how this team has treated Kappo," Eck said. "The Rangers scratched the kid, and he was pissed, and he should be. He said, Hey, I'm not on the ice very often when we're getting scored against. And you know what? He's right."
Eck added that he believes the Seattle Kraken might have a diamond in the rough with Kakko, who may have been traded for one reason.
"The Rangers got rid of him, I'm guessing, because he called out the dinosaur-a** leadership of this team on their bulls**t," Eck said. "I'm just so disappointed."
However, a report came out on Thursday that refutes the idea that Kakko was traded because of his recent comments.
Kraken GM comments on Kaapo Kakko trade
Seattle sent Will Borgen and a couple of draft picks to the New York Rangers for Kaapo Kakko, a former first-round pick in the NHL draft. Kraken general manager Ron Francis was happy to get the deal done.
“Kaapo is a young dynamic forward who brings skill and offense to our club," Francis said on Thursday, via Yahoo! Sports. "We’re excited to have him join us."
As for Borgen, Francis wished him the best.
"(I) want to thank Will for everything he’s done for our franchise," Francis said. "As an original member of the Kraken, we wish him all the best in New York.”
Neither the Rangers nor the Kraken are in contention, although the Kraken have earned five more points than the disappointing Rangers have in 2024.
