Kiefer Sherwood's fiancee Ariela Smith drops 4-word reaction to Canucks fans' chants during 1st NHL hat trick game
Kiefer Sherwood was the star performer for the Vancouver Canucks as they bounced back after a disappointing loss against the Boston Bruins. The Canucks won 3-1 against the Colorado Avalanche at home with Sherwood the only goal scorer for them and getting his first NHL hat-trick in the process.
Sherwood's fiancee Ariel Smith dedicated a video to her to-be-husband. On Instagram, she posted a story of the Rogers Arena crowd chanting his name after he scored his second goal towards the end of the second period.
To this, Smith wrote a four-word reaction, saying:
"what a special night," accompanied with an emoji.
Kiefer Sherwood and Ariel are to get hitched in the new year. The couple got engaged in August of this year during their trip to the Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos. They recently also announced the date for their wedding, July 26, 2025.
It was overwhelming for Sherwood, who acknowledged this was his first hat-trick since his AHL days. The Canucks winger moved to Vancouver only this offseason when he signed a two-year, $3 million contract with the team.
He is a relative newcomer to the league, having only become a regular feature for the Nashville Predators last season.
The hat-trick gave the 29-year-old a career-high of 11 goals in the season. His first goal came at 16:14 in the first period when he scored off a rebound save. There was a bigger display of his persistence for the second goal when he cut off Avs' Nathan MacKinnon's forward pass on a breakaway and made it two on a shorthanded goal.
His third goal came in the third period as Colorado left an empty net pursuing the game.
Kiefer Sherwood thanks Canucks fans for chanting his name
Kiefer Sherwood drank all the applause from the Vancouver crowd who chanted his name in unison. It was a dream come true moment for the Canucks newcomer who will be hoping to make it big in upcoming games.
“I was just trying to take it in, having the whole arena (chanting) is something you dream of as a kid,” he said. “Those are the kind of moments that you work for and just kind of manifest and visualize, so, I'm really thankful and grateful for them".
Canucks won their 16th game of the season and sit one point behind the direct playoff spots in the Pacific Division.
