Kris Knoblauch highlights disparity in outcomes of identical Warren Foegele and Sam Bennett knee hits
Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch disagrees with the refs' decision to hand Warren Foegele a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Knoblauch compared it to Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett's knee earlier in the game, which was only a two-minute minor penalty.
Early in the first period, Foegele was given a game misconduct for his knee on Eetu Luostarinen. It was disappointing for the Oilers, as the depth forward played just 1:54 and Edmonton had to play the rest of the game with 11 forwards.
There didn't seem to be intent from either player to knee them, and after the game, Knoblauch thought both should have been two-minute penalties.
"I don't see any difference on the Sam Bennett penalty," Knoblauch said, via Sportsnet. " I don't see very much difference in those two plays. I see Bouchard got up right away. Their guy didn't get up right away, which I think … yeah, so that's what I think."
Kris Knoblauch says Oilers focused on winning Game 3
The Edmonton Oilers have found themselves in a hole as they trail the Florida Panthers 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final.
Although Edmonton is trailing in the series, the Oilers return home for Game 3, which is practically a must-win. For Knoblauch, the goal is to win Game 3 and the focus is on one game at a time.
“I think we came here, and we played well enough that we should have had the split,” Knoblauch said, via NHL.com. “That doesn’t always happen, and we just have to take it one game at a time. I don’t see any reason to panic or do anything drastic.
"If we win one of these (at home), which I think we’re capable of doing, we’re really happy. I don’t want to get too caught up in that we’re down 2-0 and we’re in a whole lot of trouble. We just have to win the next game.”
Winning Game 3 is crucial for the Oilers. After losing both Games 1 and 2, Edmonton has their work cut out for them if they are going to win the Stanley Cup.
