"League humbles you so goddamn quick": Leon Draisaitl remains grounded despite being league's tied-leading goal scorer
Leon Draisaitl is staying cautious despite being tied for the NHL lead in goals. Draisaitl is tied with 12 goals with Sam Reinhart of the Florida Panthers and Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens.
After the Oilers' 4-3 overtime win against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, he spoke to the media about his mindset. Draisaitl said:
(2:51) "You got to be careful with things like that, because this league humbles you so god damn quick. It's scary."
He explained that he has learned not to get too comfortable.
"I've been around long enough to understand there's phases of it going well, and it going ice cold," he added.
Draisaitl is happy with his game right now as he explained:
"I feel good, i feel like i'm playing well, i'm creating chances — obviously they're going in right now — but i'm very well aware that can change in a hurry. i'm just going to continue to chip away at it."
Against the Islanders, Leon Draisaitl scored twice. He opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the second period and scored in overtime to secure the win.
It was his third multi-goal game of the season, and he now has five multi-point games in his last eight outings. Draisaitl has 12 goals, 20 points, 40 shots on net, and a plus-7 rating in 16 games. Only four of those points have come on the power play, showing his all-around play.
Draisaitl is keeping his goals simple, working hard and avoiding overconfidence as the season continues.
