Leon Draisaitl Injury: Oilers star leaves game vs Sharks after taking multiple tumbles
Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl exited Thursday's game against the San Jose Sharks after sustaining an apparent lower-body injury.
The injury seemingly may have worsened a pre-existing condition that sidelined him for four games late in March, though the Oilers have yet to release any detailed information.
Before leaving the ice, Draisaitl notched up an assist on the power play, bringing his total to five points across three games since his return from the earlier injury. The Oilers are already without captain Connor McDavid due to injury as well.
Leon Draisaitl clocked 10:04 of ice time before exiting the game. He has accumulated 105 points through 52 goals and 33 assists in 70 games so far this season.
Sports injury expert speculates Leon Draisaitl's possible injury
Sports injury expert Dr. Harjas Grewal shared insights on Draisaitl's potential injury following the game, suggesting it could ve a groin strain.
"Likely a groin strain for Draisaitl Can’t judge severity by video but hopefully lower grade and day-to-day," Dr. Grewal posted on X.
Meanwhile, head coach Kris Knoblauch provided no further update on the player's condition.
"No, I don't (have an update). I haven't seen our training staff yet," Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch said. "You never want to miss those guys. You never want your top players not to play because every time they're not in, it decreases your chances of winning because they are good players.
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-2 for their third consecutive win. The Oilers improved their record to 44-26-5, sitting third in the Pacific Division with 93 points after 75 games.
