Ottawa Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark was full of praise for forward Shane Pinto after the 24-year-old scored his first two goals in 16 games during Ottawa's 3-0 shutout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.

Shane Pinto, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract in the offseason with a $3.75 million cap hit, had been stuck in a lengthy scoring drought before breaking through against Carolina at PNC Arena.

After the game, Linus Ullmark spoke highly of Pinto's performance.

"It's well deserved. It's been brewing for a very long time," Ullmark said via TSN. "He's been putting down the work and they offered every single game blocking shots, winning crucial faceoffs, and today he got two goals out of it."

The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the second period when Pinto wristed a shot from between the circles off a feed from Michael Amadio. Pinto then sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final minute.

Pinto acknowledged feeling relieved to finally light the lamp again after his 15-game point drought.

"For me personally, it was definitely a monkey off my back, and hopefully I can keep it going," Pinto said via NHL.com. "All around, it feels good. I can’t say enough about [Ullmark]. He’s the reason we won that game. We’re happy to have him.”

Ullmark was stellar in net for Ottawa, stopping all 32 shots for a shutout win. Nick Jensen also scored for Ottawa in the win.

Linus Ullmark on Senators' 3-0 win against Hurricanes

Ullmark downplayed his own performance after the Senators' big 3-0 shutout victory on the road against the Hurricanes. He said the win was a team effort and tough to come by on the road.

"It doesn't mean really more than anything. It's a game that we play together as a team, and it's always tough coming into this building," Ullmark said.
"Obviously, you want to keep the crowd out of it day in the first period, which we did, and then we kind of build off of it. And played a really solid away game. Yeah, away game, a one off," he added.

He credited the Senators for playing a solid away game, keeping the crowd quiet early by not allowing a goal in the first period, and then building confidence from there.

When asked about the Senators' overall play right now, Ullmark said:

"I would say we played with a lot of confidence. And a lot of trust in each other."

The Ottawa Senators host the Pittsburgh Penguins next at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday.
