Linus Ullmark shares a message for Bruins fans as trade rumors continue to circulate around $20,000,000 goaltender
Boston Bruins netminder Linus Ullmark addressed the rumors circulating about his imminent trade this offseason. In a recent Instagram post, the 30-year-old goaltender posted the following comments:
"Thank you, Bruins fans, for this memorable season. Celebrating the centennial season for the spoked B has been a pleasure sharing with all of you. Time to close it out with some good old hug pictures with the fellas."
Linus Ullmark spent the regular season in a goalie tandem with Jeremy Swayman. The duo split duties in which Ullmark played 40 games. He compiled a record of 22-10-7, with a 2.57 GAA and a .915 SV%.
However, it was Swayman’s emergence in the postseason, particularly during the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs, that cemented Swayman’s role as a Bruins’ starting goaltender.
With the Bruins seemingly favoring Swayman, Ullmark looks expandable at this point. Linus Ullmark has one year left on his current deal. The contract carries a $5 million cap hit. Additionally, Swayman is a restricted free agent, meaning the Bruins will need to sign him to a new deal.
As it stands, the Bruins don’t have the cap space for two $5 million goalies. As a result, speculation has ramped up regarding a potential trade.
With various teams looking for starting goaltenders, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers, there is no shortage of suitors for the Swedish goaltender.
While the Bruins could opt for one more year of the Swayman-Ullmark tandem, it appears they have made up their minds to move Ullmark while his value is high.
Bruins-Kings swap for Linus Ullmark
A recent piece from Bleacher Report highlights potential landing spots for Linus Ullmark. While about half the league could potentially trade for Ullmark, a handful of teams stand out as the frontrunners to push for a trade.
According to Bleacher Report, Los Angeles is seen as the most obvious destination for Ullmark. The Kings don’t currently have a goalie under contract for next season. According to CapFriendly, the only goaltender on their roster is Copley Phoenix, who’s listed on the injury report.
A Bruins-Kings swap would make sense, as the Kings are looking to move Pierre-Luc Dubois. As Bleacher Report noted, the Bruins’ need for a center could make this deal work on both sides.
If the Bruins are unwilling to take on Dubois’ contract, veteran center Phillip Danault could be included in the deal. While this trade wouldn’t be a one-for-one swap, Ullmark and Dubois/Danault could be the main pieces.
Ultimately, the Bruins could move Ullmark in exchange for center depth. That is why a deal between the Kings and Bruins could make sense for all sides.
