"Loved every second with you": Senators' goalie Linus Ullmark shares heartfelt message for 'big boy' Kevin Shattenkirk after his retirement
Kevin Shattenkirk has retired from the NHL after 14 seasons. The 35-year-old defenseman announced his decision on Tuesday. Shattenkirk shared his gratitude for the game and reflected on his successful career in a post on X on Wednesday.
"After 14 amazing years in the National Hockey League, I have decided to retire," Shattenkirk tweeted. "I never knew hockey would take me this far. This game has had a dramatic impact in developing me into the man I am today."
Following his announcement, Ottawa Senators goalie Linus Ullmark reshared the NHL’s post about Shattenkirk’s retirement and added a kind message for him on his Instagram story.
“Enjoy it big boy, loved every second with you! @shattdeuces,” Ullmark wrote.
Shattenkirk played 952 regular season games, collecting 484 points. He also played 91 playoff games and earned 48 points.
Over his career, Kevin Shattenkirk played for the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins. He won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2020 and represented the United States in the Olympics and World Championships.

Kevin Shattenkirk also thanked his teammates and cherished the friendships he made during his time in hockey.
"I can proudly say that I have accomplished most of my career goals," Shattenkirk wrote. "I scored big goals, including a Stanley Cup Final overtime goal, played in All-Star games, represented my country in the Olympics, and won a Stanley Cup!
"What makes me even prouder when I reflect back on my career are the countless friendships that I have made along the way. … Thank you to all my teammates, it was an honor to play with all of you."

Shattenkirk was selected 14th overall in the 2007 NHL draft and his career was filled with accomplishments and memorable moments.
