Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner, Max Domi help raise $14M at Hockey Night Brampton

The 2024 Hockey Night in Brampton was a huge success. Toronto Maple Leafs stars Mitch Marner and Max Domi joined other NHL players to help raise $14 million for the William Osler Health System.

This charity event has been running since 2019. The highlight this year was a $12 million donation from the Carangel Corporation, part of the Greenpark Group. This donation will help build a second hospital in Brampton.

William Osler Health System tweeted on X:

"Last night on the ice was a huge success for Osler and #Brampton. $14M was raised for @OslerFoundation at #HockeyNightBrampton, hosted by @patrickbrownont and @cityofbrampton councillors. What an incredible turnout from our community (and some of hockey's greatest, might we add!)"

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, who played on Team Marner, was thrilled to reveal the large cheque on the ice. Max Domi, leading Team Domi, stood beside him as the cheque was flipped over, showing the massive donation amount.

“This amount will shock you,“ Brown said via Toronto Sun. I believe we are going to set a Canadian record. I think we are going to set a Canadian record with the most (money) raised. And we’ve got some heavy lifting to do and this is not cheap to do.”

The William Osler Health System Foundation has raised over $1.4 million through this event in the past two years. The funds have gone toward building the new Peel Memorial Hospital and improving its cardiac ward.

Ken Mayhew, President and CEO of the Foundation, expressed his thanks, noting how important this event is for the community. Mitch Marner, an Ontario native, shared that participating in the charity game is his way of giving back.

Other players at the event included Shayne Corson, Kris Versteeg, Ryan Getzlaf, and Anthony Stewart. Their involvement helped draw a large crowd, making the night a memorable one.

The $14 million raised sets a new record for this event. It shows the strong support from the community and the hockey world.

Mitch Marner and Shania Twain's charity work for Mac Tier Public School's playground

MacTier Public School is getting a new playground on Aug. 30, because of Mitch Marner and Shania Twain. The Marner Assist Foundation and Shania Twain Foundation helped raise the needed funds. The community raised $35,000 over eight years, and the foundations provided the rest.

Mitch Marner will attend the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. Community members are invited to help with final preparations. Construction starts Monday, with the playground ready for the new school year. The foundations are still raising funds and will match the $65,000 donation goal until the end of August.
