Matt Rempe makes his feelings crystal clear on return to Rangers lineup
Matt Rempe is ready to make an impact as he returns to the New York Rangers lineup. The Rangers recalled Rempe from the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, sending defenseman Victor Mancini to Hartford.
"UPDATE: Matt Rempe has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack and Victor Mancini has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack," the Rangers announced on X.
This gives the 22-year-old forward another chance to show his skills in the NHL. Speaking about his approach with NHL reporter Mollie Walker, Rempe said:
“I want to be myself, bring a lot of energy, bring speed, physicality — just play my game. Bring some youthful energy and try to do the best I can do. Go have fun, play hard, get under other team’s skin. Try to be a menace. Be good.”
So far this season, Rempe has played four NHL games without scoring any points. He has averaged just over six minutes per game, recording seven penalty minutes. While his scoring has yet to develop, his size and physical presence (2.01 m, 109 kg) are his strengths.
The Rangers' luck was at its highest last season with Rempe in the lineup. The Rangers lost only three regular season games out of 17, and in the playoffs, they lost only three games out of 11 games played.
In Hartford, Rempe has played 18 games, recording three goals, two assists, and 22 penalty minutes. The Rangers kept him in the minors earlier this season to give him more playing time and a bigger role. His development in the AHL has prepared him for this opportunity.
Will Matt Rempe's inclusion in the lineup change the New York Rangers' course?
The New York Rangers are having a tough season after winning the 2023-24 Presidents’ Trophy. Their 15-15-1 record places them sixth in the Metropolitan Division. Trading captain Jacob Trouba has created a leadership gap. Locker room problems have also hurt team morale and performance.
Artemi Panarin leads with 36 points, but the team struggles to score consistently. Their defense is shaky despite a strong penalty kill ranked second in the league at 87.1%. Recent trades, like moving Kaapo Kakko, show they are trying to fix issues. To improve, they need better team chemistry and more consistent play.
The Rangers must act fast to keep their playoff chances alive. They hope that Matt Rempe can bring his physicality and energy to their lineup. His ability to disrupt opponents and play a hard, aggressive game could help the team.
