Max Domi makes NFL GOAT admission as 7x Super Bowl winner hits the rink with Maple Leafs legend
Max Domi made his feelings on the NFL GOAT debate clear on Thursday. The Toronto Maple Leafs star had praise for Tom Brady after the legendary NFL quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl winner got on the ice with Domi's father.
In a post on X, Brady said he hadn't been on the ice since he was a child, and on his first return, he joked that he got into a fight with Tie Domi, Max's father. Tie is one of the most legendary NHL enforcers of all time and is credited with an astonishing 333 fights.
"The GOAT trying out the GOAT sport! Looking good TB (Tom Brady)!" Max Domi posted on X.
Brady went into the locker room in the video and remarked on how much equipment hockey players had, saying it was "even more than football." He then tried it all on and warmed up in skates. The players around him were impressed, but he reminded them that he was "a pro athlete."
But once Tom Brady got out onto the ice, he struggled to acclimate. Wearing skates is one thing, but skating well on the ice is another. Eventually, he got the hang of it and even made some nice shots on goal. Brady said after that he had a "newfound respect for NHLers" and called them "ridiculous athletes."
Max Domi looking to improve after major contract
Last offseason, Toronto Maple Leafs star Max Domi signed a major contract. Now that he's locked in and has that financial security, his focus is entirely on improving areas of weakness.
He said via Toronto Star that defense is key:
“I’m learning to be a guy that can be a legit defensive forward that can be trusted in all situations to help the team win. I think we need more guys like that. By no means have I been that guy my entire life … I’m trying to really just focus on that, nothing else really matters.”
That involves sacrificing some offense to get better at defense, which is something a lot of players can't do unless they're on a secure contract like Domi is. He said he needs to do that "without cheating the game."
