Meredith Gaudreau makes her feelings known about Flames honouring Johnny Gaudreau as special game's First Star

Meredith Gaudreau shared a heartfelt message after the Calgary Flames honored her late husband, Johnny Gaudreau, at Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday. The Calgary Flames won 3-0 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

After the win, the Flames named Johnny the game’s First Star. His father, Guy Gaudreau, was invited onto the ice and waved to the crowd. Fans chanted "Johnny Hockey," showing their love and respect. Meredith reacted to Sportsnet's video of Johnny being named the First Star.

“Surprise ending to a really special night. I miss watching John play so much. Being at games is hard but love supporting his teammates and friends ♥️ my first star every single day forever,” Meredith tweeted on Saturday.

The game between the Flames and Blue Jackets was an emotional one. Both teams came together to remember Johnny, who passed away on Aug. 29. He and his brother Matthew were hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding bikes near their New Jersey home. Johnny was 31 and Matthew was 29.

Before the matchup, the teams honored Johnny with a special tribute and their players wore his No. 13 jersey during warmups. A video that showed his time with the Flames played on the arena screens while Johnny B. Goode performed. The Gaudreau family then stood at center ice for a ceremonial puck drop.

Fans cheered as the tribute celebrated Johnny’s life and legacy. He was a star player for the Flames for eight seasons before joining the Blue Jackets in 2022.

Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith earlier thanked Sean Monahan

Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, praised Blue Jackets forward Sean Monahan in an Instagram story on Tuesday. Monahan, Johnny’s former teammate, played eight seasons with him in Calgary. Monahan joined the Blue Jackets hoping to reunite with him this offseason, but they never got the chance.

"To do what he did (on the ice), I definitely can't do that. But I'm trying to make him proud." Monahan said on Tuesday.
"No better guy for the job. I know for sure that John is so proud of Sean, standing by our side through this every step of the way, even though it's his own massive loss too," Meredith captioned the story.

Johnny Gaudreau and Monahan were best friends, and now, along with his wife Brittany Rosenberg, are staying connected with Meredith, keeping the friendship going.
