Meredith Gaudreau reacts to Johnny Gaudreau's adorable throwback picture from Calgary Flames days
Late NHL player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudrea's tragic death had shocked the entire hockey community. While it has been almost two months since the heartbreaking incident, hockey fans and those close to the players continue to pay tributes to the memory of the Gaudreau brothers.
On Wednesday, a fan account posted a throwback picture of Johnny Gaudreau from his days with the Calgary Flames. Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny's widow, shared the post on her Instagram story, writing:
“Cutest”
The original post was captioned:
“That lettuce is the best 🥬😂. Came across this picture while I was looking for more pictures, and I had to post it.”
Earlier this month, the Calgary Flames honored Johnny Gaudreau's memory in a heartfelt way. Before their home opener, they held a tribute for Johnny. They made a video documentary showing highlights of his best moments with the team as fans joined together in applause, chanting “Johnny! Johnny! Johnny!.”
Fans also created a memorial at the Saddledome, and the team held a candlelight vigil, where thousands came to pay their respects. Calgary's goalie Dustin Wolf even added a tribute to Johnny on his mask, with small images of his favorite snacks, Gatorade and Skittles.
This season, every NHL team will wear a decal with Johnny and his brother Matthew Gaudrea's number.
Johnny Gaudreau's wife reminisces their time together at Hanifins' wedding
Johnny Gaudreau and his wife Meredith had attended the wedding of Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Noah Hanifin and his wife, Monique, this past August. The event was just weeks before Johnny’s tragic passing.
In an Instagram repost from Monique Hanifin, Meredith shared a photo of Johnny raising a toast with the caption:
"A man with a heart of gold and life of the party."
Reflecting on this memory, Meredith added while reposting it on her Instagram story:
“Always be my wedding date.”
Held on August 10, 2024, at the scenic Gardiner House in Newport, Rhode Island, the wedding was filled with friends and loved ones celebrating together. Sadly, just weeks later, Johnny and his brother Matthew lost their lives in a tragic accident caused by a suspected drunk driver while they were cycling.
Meredith and their children, Noa and Johnny, recently attended the Columbus Blue Jackets’ KIDS Opening Night at Nationwide Arena. Walking the blue carpet, Meredith and her children joined local youth and mascots in celebrating young fans. The event was packed with family-friendly entertainment, including games, live music, and activities for kids.
