"Missing your hugs every single day": Johnny Gaudreau's mother Jane shares emotional throwback picture with sons Johnny and Matthew
Jane Gaudreau, the mother of late NHL stars Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau, shared a touching tribute to her sons this week. The entire Gaudreau family has been grieving the loss of their two sons who passed away two months ago in late August.
On Tuesday, Jane posted a throwback photo on her Instagram account of the three of them together, with Johnny and Matthew hugging her. In the caption, she wrote:
“Missing your hugs every single day!❤️❤️”
On August 29, Johnny and Matthew were struck by a truck while cycling in Salem County. The incident took place while they were home for their sister Katie’s wedding. The driver involved is facing charges for driving under the influence and vehicular homicide.
Their sister Katie Gaudreau reposted her mother’s tribute on her Instagram story. She added in the caption:
“Me too ma”
On Tuesday, Katie also shared a tribute of her own on Instagram to honor her late brothers. She posted a black-and-white photo from Johnny’s wedding of a special family moment with her siblings, Kristen, Matthew, and Johnny. In the caption, Katie expressed her deep loss, writing:
“I’d do anything to go back two months. Just for one more family hug. The best family. Love you boys more than anything. Keep taking care of us.”
Johnny Gaudreau’s mother thanks Blue Jackets and hockey community for love and support
On Oct. 15, the Columbus Blue Jackets paid a special tribute to Johnny Gaudreau during their home opener. Jane Gaudreau expressed gratitude for the team's touching gesture and for the overwhelming kindness the family has received since the tragic loss of her sons.
In her message posted on Instagram, Jane thanked the entire Columbus Blue Jackets organization, the players, their families, and the Columbus community for their consistent support over the past two months. She shared that the cards, flowers, and kind words meant a great deal to their family.
“The love and support you’ve shown for John, Matty, and our entire family have helped us through the most difficult time of our lives,” she wrote.
Jane also remarked how moving it was to see this love extended to her family and shared that she wished everyone could have known Matthew, who was much like his brother Johnny.
“As parents, we were incredibly blessed to have four amazing children and as a family we were equally as blessed to have a strong circle of family, friends, and teams standing by us.”
In the end, she asked fans to continue keeping the family in their thoughts as they remember and honor Johnny and Matthew’s legacy.
