NHL analyst offers candid opinion on intriguing Rangers trade rumors involving Jacob Trouba and Matt Rempe

There have been rumors of a trade involving Jacob Trouba and Matt Rempe. As per the rumor, the New York Rangers send Trouba and Rempe to the Boston Bruins for a package including a couple of players and draft compensation.

It would be a blockbuster trade, especially since the Rangers were one of the most successful teams last season. However, NHL analyst Jimmy Murphy has thrown cold water on this idea.

Per the insider, it's not happening. He said on X, formerly known as Twitter:

"Sadly, a bogus NHL trade rumor involving the [Boston Bruins] and [New York Rangers] is being talked about as if it's real. It's not. Jacob Trouba, Matt Rempe for Carlo, Beecher, 2027 2nd. Not happening. Move along."

He went on to say that it's "comical" that anyone thought the Rangers would trade one of their biggest and most marketable players. Additionally, he noted that Rempe has "a cult following" and believes he could develop into a star.

He implored those behind the rumor to at least come up with something plausible next time.

Whether or not the Jacob Trouba to the Boston Bruins trade is real, Trouba is involved in rumors. His long-term future is not certain with the New York Rangers right now.

Trouba has two seasons left on his current contract, and reports suggest that he’s been asked to give a 15-team no-trade clause. This indicates a desire to find out whom he'd be fine to land with next.

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News argues that this should not be:

"At age 30, he’s paid his dues and should be afforded the basic respect that comes along with a legally binding agreement."

Since Trouba is still under contract and can't be traded, the Rangers, who have done very well with him, should not try and force his hand. His wife is working and completing a residency at a New York hospital, so a move doesn't make sense for the family.
