NHL analyst opines on potential outcomes if Rangers don’t resolve $56,000,000 Jacob Trouba's future before training camp
NHL analyst Dan Rosen shared his views on the New York Rangers need to sort out Jacob Trouba's future before training camp in the July 24 edition of the NHL.com mailbag. Trouba has been a subject of trade rumors and reportedly declined a trade to the Detroit Red Wings earlier this offseason as he has a no-trade clause.
Jacob Trouba has two years left on his seven-year $56,000,000 deal. Rosen believes all the Rangers will be asked about Jacob Trouba and the trade rumors this season, which could make for an awkward first few days of training camp
"Trouba is not a me-first player, and his teammates and the Rangers coaching staff have nothing to do with the business of the game. He will play hard. He will play to win ... Trouba has been nothing but professional as an NHL player, and that's the expectation in this situation," Rosen wrote (per NHL.com).
"Is it awkward for him to know the Rangers were looking to trade him? It probably is, yes. Is it an elephant in the room right now? Sure, but he's not the first player in history who is playing for a team that was actively looking to trade him. It won't be an elephant in the room if Trouba addresses the situation head-on when camp opens. That's my expectation. It'll be a big story that day," Rosen added.
Analyst says rumors likely won't impact Jacob Trouba
Although the trade rumors are no doubt on Jacob Trouba's mind, as he is the New York Rangers captain and one of their leaders, Rosen says they won't impact him.
Instead, Rosen says Trouba needs to put all that behind him so he can have a good year and help the Rangers have success if he isn't moved.
"If Trouba's history and personality are indicators ... that shouldn't and likely won't impact how Trouba goes about his business with the Rangers as their captain and a top-six defenseman to start the season. It can't, or New York will have bigger problems," Rosen said (per NHL.com).
New York was eliminated in the Conference Finals by the Florida Panthers last season.
