NHL analyst eliminates Connor McDavid from having a 150-point season

In a TSN "Hot or Not" segment, hockey analyst Frankie Corrado discussed Connor McDavid's chances of reaching 150 points in the upcoming NHL season. Despite McDavid's talent, Corrado doesn't think it will happen.

Corrado noted that McDavid's previous 150-point season included 64 goals, which is difficult to repeat.

"I'm going to say not, and I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but the year that Connor McDavid eclipsed 150 points, he also had 64 goals." Corrado said.
"I don't envision another season like that for Connor McDavid where he scores 60-plus goals."

He also mentioned that McDavid’s focus has shifted. The Edmonton Oilers came close to winning the Stanley Cup, and McDavid now prioritizes team success over individual milestones.

Corrado believes McDavid’s focus on winning the Stanley Cup might keep him from hitting 150 points again.

"The other thing is, now the Edmonton Oilers have been one win away from winning a Stanley Cup. His game has changed—it looks a little bit different now.
"It's not about individual accolades. It's not about 150 point. It's about winning a Stanley Cup. And maybe his game will reflect that a little bit more," Corrado explained.

Last season, McDavid had 132 points in 76 games, ranking third in the league. He led with 100 assists but scored 32 goals, showing a more balanced approach.

"So no, not to Connor McDavid eclipsing 150 points again this year," Corrado concluded.

While McDavid remains one of the NHL’s top players, his game has changed to support the Oilers’ goal of winning a championship.

McDavid made an impressive debut in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, scoring 11 points, an achievement that put him among hockey's greatest players. He's just behind Mario Lemieux and Daniel Briere, who each had 12 points in their first Finals. McDavid’s 11 points match those of NHL legends Mike Bossy and Brian Leetch.

The NHL Network ranked the top 20 centers in the NHL. Connor McDavid is first, following his consecutive four-point nights in Stanley Cup Finals. Nathan MacKinnon is second, for his 140 points, while Auston Matthews ranks third for his 69-goal season.

Leon Draisaitl is fourth, followed by Aleksander Barkov in fifth, who led his team to a Stanley Cup win. Sidney Crosby is sixth after a 94-point season, while Brayden Point ranks seventh for his consistent goalscoring.

Jack Eichel and Jack Hughes are also in the top-10 for their scoring abilities. The list includes rising stars like Elias Pettersson and experienced players like Mika Zibanejad and Sebastian Aho, reflecting a mix of talent and experience among NHL centers.
