NHL Rumors: Insider addresses Trevor Zegras trade talk involving Rangers

New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren discussed trade rumors after a summer game in Da Beauty League in Edina, Minnesota.

The Athletic's Arthur Staple reported on Lindgren’s comments. Lindgren answered questions from fans about the Rangers, discussing prospects and Kaapo Kakko's future with the team. He mentioned that if the Rangers were interested in players like Trevor Zegras or right wing Alex Tuch, it would require more than Kakko as the main trade piece.

"I don’t think the Rangers have ever been interested in Zegras." Lindgren said "The local kid would love to be a Ranger. I don’t think the Sabres have ever seriously considered moving Tuch. If the Rangers were in on either of those guys, it would take more than Kakko as the centerpiece of whatever was going the other way." (via The Athletic)

Lindgren also commented on his one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Rangers.

"If the team’s successful, you’re going to be successful,” he said. “I want to be in New York. It’s all I’ve known the past six years. I love being there and I want to be there as long as I can.”

Lindgren is confident in the team’s potential for a playoff run.

“We were right there last year. It’s a grind to get to that point,” he said. “We’re just excited to get back it.”

Staple added that the Rangers need to be aggressive given their limited assets. He also discussed potential roster moves and player development.

Overall, the rumors involving Trevor Zegras and the Rangers seem to be more speculation than reality.

Trevor Zegras might move out of Anaheim: Report

Trevor Zegras has been rumored for a trade for about a year. Analyst Stu Grimson thinks a trade is possible, noting Zegras could bring a strong return. In an interview on NHL Network, Grimson said,

“I suspect there’s a really solid possibility there,” Grimson said. “A guy that could bring a really robust return, by way of a trade, there’s a good possibility that Zegras moves on.” (via Breakaway)

Grimson praises Zegras’s offensive skills but says he needs to improve defensively.

Zegras, 23, has 55 goals and 99 assists in 211 NHL games. His best season saw 65 points, but he has potential for more. Last season, injuries limited him to 31 games and 15 points.

Grimson believes there's truth to these rumors. The Fourth Period lists Trevor Zegras as the seventh top trade target, with eight teams showing interest, including the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers.
