NHL Rumors: Nashville Predators’ $2.5M defenseman emerges as trade candidate in team’s defensive shuffle
The Nashville Predators have gotten off to a slow start this season, with a 2-5-0 record, despite making some big moves in the offseason.
That has led to speculation that general manager Barry Trotz might look to shake things up with a trade, particularly to add help at forward and center. One player who has emerged as a potential trade candidate is defenseman Dante Fabbro.
Over the off season, Fabbro inked a one year deal $2.5 million as a restricted agent and will hit unrestricted free agency after this season ends. NHL Insider Darren Dreger, on TSN's Insider Trading segment, speculated that Fabbro is not fitting in Nashville even though he was a former first-round draft pick.
"Look at his blue line in Nashville. Some are wondering if Dante Fabbro is available, he's been available before.
"He is a young-ish defenseman, 26; he's a right-shot, (which is) always coveted. But he seems to be a misfit there. Some night he's with (Roman) Josi, some nights he's in the press box."
For the team's seven games, he played in only four without scoring any points, spending an average of 13:29 on the ice time.
Nashville Predators' 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks
The Nashville Predators edged out the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Friday night in an exciting Central Division matchup.
“Gutsy win. You're down two on the road, two pucks down on the road, and find a way to have some big kills, and a big shorty. Fil made an outstanding play to kind of get us back in the game, and then Brady at the end. Predators coach Andrew Brunette said.
"So, it wasn’t pretty, but we did some things, and (we) still continue to build our game here a little bit.”
Brady Skjei, Gustav Nyquist and Filip Forsberg scored for the Predators, while Craig Smith and Connor Bedard did so for the Blackhawks. Juuse Saros stopped 27 shots for the Predators, while Petr Mrazek thwarted 31 for the Blackhawks
The Nashville Predators will look to build on this win when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
