"Not good enough": Quinn Hughes disappointed after Canucks' 6-0 beatdown by Devils
Quinn Hughes was disappointed after the Vancouver Canucks lost 6-0 to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. He highlighted the second period as a key moment when the game slipped away.
In a post-game press conference, he talked about the team's performance.
“Not good enough," Quinn said.
Jesper Bratt got a double minor penalty for high-sticking Quinn Hughes, which drew blood. The Canucks had a chance to score during the power play but couldn't make it happen.
Quinn Hughes said that it's always disappointing not to score on a power play. He also praised his teammate Conor Garland for his competitive spirit and hard work over the years.
"He's a competitive guy. He's got a lot of care and will, and that's why he's been such a good player for us over the course of a couple of years," Hughes added.
Quinn Hughes said that the team needs to refocus and practice hard. He emphasized that sharpening skills is important for their upcoming road trip.
The game didn’t start well for the Canucks, as the Devils scored in the first minute, with Nico Hischier getting his 10th goal of the season. The Canucks had a power play shortly after, but the Devils stopped it. Jacob Markstrom made some key saves to keep the score close.
The second period was tough for the Canucks. Dawson Mercer scored, making it 2-0 after a good play by Hischier. The Devils kept pressing and extended their lead to 4-0 through Ondrej Palat.
In the third period, the Canucks struggled to get shots on goal early. The Devils controlled the puck, keeping Vancouver on the defensive. Quinn Hughes' brother, Jack, scored a power-play goal, followed by Tomas Tatar’s goal, which sealed the Canucks' 6-0 defeat.
