NY Islanders HC Patrick Roy makes his feelings known about Ryan Pulock's injury due to 'dangerous plays'
New York Islanders coach Patrick Roy talked about defenseman Ryan Pulock suffering an injury during the game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Pulock was hurt just 15 seconds into his shift when he tangled with Hurricanes forward Jackson Blake behind the Islanders' net.
Roy spoke to the media after the game about Pulock.
"I hope it was an accident, because, I mean, I didn't like it at all when I watch it on the replay, I didn't like that, that, that school foot," Roy said, via NHL.com. "I mean, if I would have loved to see the league looking at thisebecause these are dangerous plays."
Pulock, who has 16 points (three goals and 13 assists) this season, had to leave the game early. It’s a big loss for the Islanders as he is a key part of their defense. Along with Pulock’s injury, goalie Marcus Hogberg also got hurt. He injured his right hand and was replaced by Ilya Sorokin for overtime.
Roy said that losing key players like Pulock and Hogberg was tough, but it also gave other players a chance to step up in the OT win.
“You don't like losing players," Roy said on Monday, via NHL.com. There's no doubt about it, especially the way they both were playing. They were playing really well for us. So, I mean, they’re bad losses and important ones, but at the same time, it gives opportunities to other guys to take advantage of it.”
The Islanders have been dealing with several injuries, including defenseman Noah Dobson. Despite the challenges, the team is focused on continuing to play well and finding ways to win.
New York Islanders won 3-2 in overtime recovering from Ryan Pulock and Marcus Hogberg's injuries
The New York Islanders won 3-2 in OT against the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina took the lead with Jack Roslovic's goal at 5:18 of the first period via a shot-high blocker side. Sebastian Aho made it 2-0 at 6:30, but the Islanders recovered from Ryan Pulock and Marcus Hogberg's injury and erased the lead.
“One thing I'm very proud of is we were resilient,” Roy said. “But more than that, we showed character. I mean, down 2-0 in the past, that could have been worse."
The Islanders responded with Alexander Romanov’s goal at 17:53. His shot from the blue line went in after hitting a defender. Anders Lee tied the game at 2-2 in the third period. In overtime, Brock Nelson scored the game-winning goal at 2:03 on a 2-on-1 rush.
