Oilers' Corey Perry turns up for SmackDown in Edmonton to aid Kevin Owens in taking out Austin Theory and Grayson Waller
On Friday night, Edmonton Oilers right wing Corey Perry made a surprise appearance at a "WWE SmackDown!" show in Edmonton. He was there with his son Griffin, and the live crowd cheered when the camera turned to him.
Perry signed with Edmonton in January, and the Oilers hope to be vying for the Stanley Cup after losing to the Florida Panthers by one goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.
During the "WWE Smackdown!" match between Kevin Owens and Austin Theory, Perry got involved.
Theory was accompanied to the ring by Grayson Waller, and to provoke the Edmonton fans, Waller wore a Florida Panthers jersey. The move may have irritated Perry, too.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed to the fans on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"Smackdown last night in Edmonton. Believe the wrestler he held came out in a Florida Panthers sweater, too"
At one point, Kevin Owens asked Corey Perry for help. Owens was at ringside and had Theory pressed up against the crowd barriers, right in front of Perry's seat. He gestured to Perry, who then grabbed Theory's arms and held him back against the barrier, while Owens delivered a big chop. Theory immediately fell down writhing in pain while Owens and Perry high-fived.
Owens later won the match after pinning Theory and fans enjoyed seeing Perry's playful involvement during the match.
Corey Perry will help the Oilers in 2024's run for the Stanley Cup

The Oilers also signed Viktor Arvidsson, Connor Brown and Josh Brown.
