Jordan Leigh reacts to Patrik Laine getting a standing ovation in Habs home opener

"Our hearts are so full tonight": Patrik Laine's fiance Jordan Leigh lauds 'the best' Habs fans for standing ovation

Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine suffered a sprain to his left knee during a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. That injury will see the forward remain sidelined for a couple of months and his debut for the Habs will have to wait until that.

However, fans made sure to welcome their new star in the house with a loud cheer. During the Montreal Canadiens' home opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre on Tuesday, forward Patrik Laine received a loud standing ovation when his name was called.

Laine was shown on the big screen and head coach Martin St. Louis patted him on the back. The player smiled at the audience who continued cheering long after his name was called.

Patrik Laine’s fiancee Jordan Leigh took to Instagram and shared a few clips of the special moment on her story. She appreciated the beautiful gesture by the Montreal crowd.

“Habs family you are literally the best. Our hearts are so full after tonight,” she wrote with a heart emoji.

Patrik Laine’s injury will not require surgery

Patrik Laine will miss two to three months after suffering a sprain to his left knee. The injury occurred less than five minutes into their fourth preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre.

While the Canadiens were on a power play, Laine collided with Leafs player Cédric Paré in a knee-on-knee incident at the blue line. Laine fell to the ice clutching his left knee and was unable to put any weight on his leg. He had to be helped to leave the ice afterwards.

However, the player will not require surgery per the team's official briefing. Quite like the fans, Patrik Laine himself will be relieved to hear the news himself.

“Forward Patrik Laine sustained a sprain to his left knee that will not require surgery. His rehabilitation period is expected to be from two to three months,” the official Instagram account for the Montreal Canadiens posted.

Laine was later spotted on crutches with a brace on his left knee while watching the Canadiens' practice. His fiancee Jordan Leigh also shared her relief at the ‘miracle’ and thanked everyone for their support.
