"Our party & team know the truth": Jeremy Swayman breaks his silence regarding Cam Neely's '$64 million' claim

Jeremy Swayman has addressed Cam Neely's recent comments regarding his contract. Swayman signed an eight-year deal worth $66 million with the Boston Bruins on Sunday. The contract has an average annual value of $8.25 million and extends through the 2031-32 season.

After the deal, Swayman spoke to the media, where he responded to the remarks made by Bruins President Cam Neely. A video of his comments was shared on X by Insider Conor Ryan.

"Our party and our team know the truth." Swayman said, "At the same time, we found an agreement and the fact that I could be here for eight years gives me goosebumps saying that."

During a press conference on October 2, Bruins president Cam Neely expressed his belief that Jeremy Swayman wanted to stay in Boston. He also indicated the proposal the Bruins made to Swayman.

"I know that I have 64 million reasons why I'd be playing right now," Neely said per NHL.com.

Swayman, 25, was a restricted free agent. He previously signed a one-year contract worth $3.475 million, decided by an arbitrator on August 1, 2023. However, the Bruins and Swayman decided not to go for arbitration this year. He also expressed his confidence in securing an extension with the Bruins.

"I'm confident that my agent and I and management will figure out the details this summer," Swayman said via NHL.com. "I'm looking forward to it."

The Bruins and Swayman were unable to reach a successful negotiation before the training camp began. As a result, before camp, General Manager Don Sweeney publically talked about the differences between the two sides.

"I'm disappointed. When you set things as a priority from the general manager's spot, you do your best to try to accomplish that and I haven't been able to do that yet," Sweeney said on Sept, 18 per CBS, "But at the end of the day I'm optimistic because I think we'll find a landing spot before Dec. 1."

Bruins training camp started on September 18, and Jeremy Swayman did not play. In the preseason, the Bruins' performance saw a slump and they won just two out of seven games. This is believed to be one of the reasons why, the Bruins and Swayman agreed to a $66 million extension. The Bruins needed Swayman in the net to start the season strong.

Jeremy Swayman has great expectations on him now

Jeremy Swayman had a successful season last year. He won 25 games and had a 2.53 goals-against average. With Linus Ullmark traded to the Ottawa Senators, Swayman is expected to be the No. 1 goalie.

The Bruins start their season against the Panthers on Tuesday. Coach Jim Montgomery has named Joonas Korpisalo as the starting goalie for Game 1, while Swayman will be covering up for his missed practice during the preseason.
