"Our second home”: Johnny Gaudreau’s wife Meredith pens heartwarming note thanking Blue Jackets ‘family’
On Tuesday, Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of NHL player Johnny Gaudreau, shared a touching message after the Columbus Blue Jackets’ home opener. The game took place on Oct. 15 against the Florida Panthers. It honored Johnny and his brother, Matthew, who died in August after being hit by a driver while biking in New Jersey.
Both teams wore Johnny's No. 13 on their jerseys for warmups. The Blue Jackets also displayed a tribute throughout the arena, including a replica locker with Johnny's jerseys and items from a fan memorial.
Meredith attended the game with their two children, two-year-old Noa and nine-month-old Johnny. She shared photos of her kids enjoying the event and celebrating their father's legacy.
In her note, Meredith thanked the Blue Jackets family for their support.
"Thank you to our entire Columbus Blue Jackets family for such a beautiful night celebrating our favorite guy 💙. NWA was our second home as a family and a place I still feel close to John in. I could see in Noa’s eyes that she can feel it too," Meredith wrote.
"Thank you to all of our babies hockey uncles & aunts for keeping us so close to this community and including Noa and Johnny in everything. ... I feel at home when I am around you all. I can’t thank you enough from the bottom of my broken heart."
She also thanked the fans for their love and tributes to Johnny Gaudreau. Meredith ended her message with a loving tribute, calling him the best husband and father.
