Paul Bissonnette delivers his verdict on Minnesota Wild's 12th overall 2024 NHL Draft pick
The Minnesota Wild selected Zeev Buium with the 12th overall pick in the NHL Draft. It is a pick for their future, as Buium intends to go back to school and isn't in a hurry to progress through minor leagues and into the top hockey league just yet. Nevertheless, Paul Bissonnette, a former star hockey player himself, gave his thoughts on Minnesota's pick.
Bissonnette tweeted about the draft pick:
"Steal of the draft? Billy G was all over this one. The Wild’s back end looking stacked for years to come after snagging Zeev Buium at number 12. Minnesota will have to wait one more year for the young gun."
It can be a risk to take a player who's not ready or doesn't want to be in the NHL just yet. These picks are made with the long-term future of a franchise in mind, but they can be detrimental. If Buium decides he doesn't have much interest in making it to the NHL, he won't progress as well through the minors.
This is also an important time for his development with the team. Nevertheless, Bissonnette believes this could be looked back on as a wonderful pick that other teams might wish they'd made.
Zeev Buium hopeful for more success with Minnesota Wild
Zeev Buium has won a lot in the Xcel Energy Center, the home of the Minnesota Wild. Pretty soon, his home contests will be held there. He's won two championships there and is looking forward to more.
He said via NHL:
“It’s a great start I feel like, and hopefully it keeps building up.”
Minnesota traded up in the first round of the draft to pick Buium. Minnesota Wild director of player development Brad Bombardir said:
“(Buium’s a) Great kid. Love him. Confident guy. I think that's what drives him as a player and drives his success. He should be confident. All he's done is win, especially in our building, too, which is kind of nice. Hopefully that continues."
He believes, and most of the Wild front office does as well, that Buium can be a special talent who helps them win at Xcel Energy Center.
