Paul Bissonnette gives his verdict on Nick Robertson's stick push that resulted in William Nylander's head collision
Former NHL player turned analyst Paul Bissonnette weighed in on the stick push by Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson that led to William Nylander colliding head-first with Canadiens forward Dvorak.
The incident occurred during the first period preseason game between Toronto and Montreal. As Nylander was skating past his teammate Robertson, Robertson tried to give Nylander a boost with his stick. However, this seemed to throw Nylander off balance, causing him to crash into Dvorak knee-first with his head.
Nylander immediately left the game and did not return. Bissonnette gave his opinion on Robertson's play on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
"Dumb push. He’s trying to give Willy a boost even after the rush isn’t a threat. He’s trying to help a teammate. Learning mistake for a guy trying to make an impression early. Shit sandwich result."
Bissonnette went on to defend Robertson's intentions, saying:
"I don’t want to hear it. This is what guys do to get the little extra boost on the back check. Just a fluke. Robertson concerned right away feeling terrible. Get well soon Willy."
The Maple Leafs went on to win the preseason game 2-1 over Montreal.
Maple Leafs HC Craig Berube on Nick Robertson's push on Nylander
After Toronto's first preseason win, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube commented on an incident involving forwards Nick Robertson and William Nylander.
Berube said:
"He kind of got pushed from behind by [Robertson]. He fell and went into a guy on the other team. (as per mapleleafshotstove.com)
Berube also provided a positive update on Nylander, saying:
He’ll be okay. He is fine. Nothing to worry about."
Berube went on to praise Robertson's performance and game-winning goal.
"Roby is a dynamic skater. He has a motor on him. He just works and works and works. It is great to see him get the goal there. It was a good track to strip a guy and score." Berube said.
Berube mentioned that he's a hard worker and can score with his shot. He also pointed out that Nick Robertson did a lot of good things in the game.
The Maple Leafs will next face the Montreal Canadiens again on Saturday.
