Predators GM Barry Trotz names one key position he's eyeing to upgrade through trade market
The Nashville Predators are not off to a great start this season, and general manager Barry Trotz is reportedly open to making some trades to fix that. They're currently last in the Central Division at 5-9-2 and with just 12 points on the season. They're behind the division-leading Winnipeg Jets by 18 points right now.
The GM likes what he's seen lately but admitted that the team struggled out of the gate this season. He revealed the one spot he is looking at to improve ahead of the trade deadline. Trotz said, via The Athletic:
“I think I’m always looking for a center. I think half the league is looking for a center. I don’t think that’s anything that’s earth-shattering. But we’re always looking to try and improve there. I think we’ve got good people. We had injuries in the middle."
The Predators had some key injuries and some close losses that have stunted any momentum they've been able to build. They'll be back at it on Thursday at 9 pm EST against the Edmonton Oilers, who are also off to a lackluster start with just 17 points on the year so far.
Predators GM Barry Trotz likes what he's seeing of late
While the season record is not good and there haven't been a lot of positive streaks this season, Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz is taking the bird's-eye view on the season. In doing so, he likes what he sees.
He said, via The Athletic:
“Well, I think we’re playing better. Our structure is a lot better. Our mindset is a lot better. We’ve got a little more balance. We’ve been good in all the defensive metrics. Our special teams are going. We’re just collecting points as much as we can. I think we’re four points out of a wild-card spot.”
Despite the poor start, they're not far out of the playoff race yet. This is a team that made the playoffs with 99 points last year, so their disappointing start was also surprising. Nevertheless, their GM is encouraged and he's already looking at providing them a boost in the form of a new center.
