Quinton Byfield clears up big misunderstanding about $100 million man Connor McDavid

On July 16, 2024, the LA Kings announced that forward Quinton Byfield signed a five-year contract extension. The What Chaos Show shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) where Byfield addressed a common misconception about Connor McDavid.

The show's host mentioned that while he is a big Oilers fan, he finds McDavid to be one of the least funny people in the world.

In response, Quinton Byfield explained that McDavid, whom he has gotten to know well through their shared agency and summer workouts, is actually quite funny once he gets comfortable.

"No, it’s true. Connor and I have had the opportunity to work out together during the summers. We're represented by the same agency, so over the years, I got to meet him. He's sneaky really funny once he opens up to you guys," Byfield said.

McDavid is under an eight-year contract with the Oilers worth $100 million. His cap hit is $12.5 million. For the 2024-25 season, he will get $1 million in salary, a $7 million signing bonus, and a $3 million base salary.

Quinton Byfield discusses the unique origin of his name

Quinton Byfield signed a five-year, $31.25 million extension with the LA Kings. The second-overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft had a breakout season in 2023-24. Byfield recorded 20 goals last season. Byfield's performance is crucial for the Kings. He is expected to improve his offensive production in the 2024-25 season.

Many fans know Byfield's on-ice skills, but not all know the story behind his name. Byfield’s parents originally planned to name him Clinton after his father. However, they decided to name him Quinton, inspired by famed director Quentin Tarantino. Though Tarantino has no personal connection to the Byfield family, his work influenced their naming decision.

Byfield shared this story on the What Chaos! podcast. Also saying:

"Maybe the story is a little embellished, but I believe that's the gist of it. It's funny because my dad's name is Clinton, and they named me Quinton, and my godfather's name is Linton as well. So, I guess I’ll have to keep the trend going in the future."

Byfield tallied 55 points in 80 regular-season games during the 2023-24 season and added 4 assists in the playoffs for the Kings.
