"Ref robbed us of sweet justice" "Couple of rats": NHL fans react to Bruins' Brad Marchand slew-footing 6'0" Nate Schmidt
Brad Marchand is never shy to mix it up with his opponents. That was once again the case on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins captain got into a net-front battle with 6-foot-0 Florida Panthers defenseman Nate Schmidt.
It was a heated exchange where some fans felt Marchand slew-footed Schmidt, who then tackled the Bruins winger.
Marchand and Schmidt have had some run-ins in the past, so some fans were not surprised to see them going at each other again.
"That ref robbed us of sweet justice," one fan wrote.
"Just a couple of rats going at it," another fan wrote.
"Old school," another fan added.
More fan reactions have continued to pour in. Fans were far too familiar with Marchand's antics.
"Wtf is Marchand doing?" one fan wrote.
"So Marchand comes out and makes a great speech yesterday but then devolves back into the slew foot master; since a slewfoot is from behind, this is the reverse slewfoot!" another fan added.
"3 game suspension coming," one fan added.
Brad Marchand shot down recent reports of a rift with teammate David Pastrnak
When rumors were flying that Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak were feuding amid the team's recent struggles, they quickly denied them.
Rich Keefe, a Boston sports show host, said on air that sources told him Marchand had called out Pastrnak for his subpar play, and that led Pasta to tell coaches and management that he won't play on a line with the 36-year-old.
Marchand was particularly vocal in his comments, saying it was a "blatant lie." Pastrnak also said they laughed about the comments and that he's never said such things.
The Bruins captain is having a down season for his standards. He's produced 33 points (15 goals, 18 assists) in 44 games, a 62-point full-season pace, which would be the lowest total he's amassed since the 2015-16 campaign.
Boston will need its star left-winger to start producing more to secure themselves a spot in the playoffs.
