Sabres HC Lindy Ruff makes his feelings known on Buffalo fans cheering on Maple Leafs at KeyBank Center
Lindy Ruff is very familiar with the sights and sounds of Toronto Maple Leaf fans filling the KeyBank Center. His Sabres host the Leafs tonight at 7 p.m. EST in Buffalo and Maple Leafs fans are well-known to travel for road games, especially to Buffalo because of its proximity. Just over two hours' driving distance away, the KeyBank Center is sure to be littered with Toronto fans for tonight's game.
Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff was asked this morning whether the potential of a pro-Toronto crowd in Buffalo would have an impact on the game. The head coach does not appear to be bothered by it:
"All about the 2 points not the fans. If we play well we can take the fans out of the game," said Ruff.
His comment made the rounds online, and one Sabres fan had a funny comment on the situation on X.
"Sabres fans arriving at Keybank center surrounded by 96% leaf fans to watch their team amidst an 11 game losing streak," the fan wrote.
It's tough times for the Sabres and their fans, who are attempting to make light of the circumstances.
Lindy Ruff and the Sabres are desperate for a win amid an 11-game losing streak
Lindy Ruff and the Buffalo Sabres have been in the headlines a lot lately, for all of the wrong reasons. Riding an 11-game winless streak, where they've gone 0-8-3, Buffalo has fallen to last place in the Eastern Conference.
The Sabres are currently tied with the NFL's New York Jets for the longest active playoff drought in North American sports at 13 years. The team's recent free fall has them at 11-17-4 with 26 points on the season, 10 points out of the second wild card spot in the East. Buffalo's 11 straight losses have put their hopes of making it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in major jeopardy.
On a more positive note, Lindy Ruff said that Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin returns to the lineup tonight after missing the previous seven games with back spasms. We'll see if Dahlin's return can help the Sabres put an end to this extended losing streak.
