Sam Dickinson recalls “intense” team interview with NHL side rumored to draft him

NHL prospect Sam Dickinson recently spoke out about his experience at the Combine ahead of this year’s Entry Draft. While the overall experience was great, there was an interview with a particular team that proved more challenging than others.

This particular interview took place with the Ottawa Senators, a team reportedly interested in drafting the 18-year-old. Insider Mark Masters recently interviewed Dickinson on TSN regarding his experience of a meeting with the Ottawa Senators.

The young defenceman had this to say:

"That one was a little more intense, especially knowing that there’s been some talk about me heading to Ottawa. Definitely one that I was looking forward to, and wanted to show my best."

Sam Dickinson went on to add:

"It went really well."

The Ottawa Senators hold the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft. The club will be looking to add another player who will impact its stable of young stars. At another point in the interview, Masters asked Dickinson point blank:

"What do you think about the possibility of staying close to home and being drafted by Ottawa?"

Dickinson replied:

"Yeah, it would definitely be really cool, kind of the closest team to my hometown in Toronto, other than Toronto. So, you know, that kind of dynamic of being able to stay pretty close to home, you know, obviously end up staying in a great organization, Canadian market, obviously unbelievable fans and that kind of stuff."

The highly-touted potential recruit concluded his thoughts about Ottawa by stating:

"It would be an honor, if that were the case to go there."

The Senators will be looking forward to drafting Sam Dickinson as he is one of the most talented players available in this year’s Draft. He could potentially create an immediate impact on the club this upcoming season.

Montreal also interested in Sam Dickinson

Masters brought up another club that seems interested in taking Dickinson: Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens hold the fifth overall pick in the draft. Considering Dickinson’s profile, he could be an intriguing choice for the Habs.

Dickinson replied to Masters and gave certain details about his meeting with the Canadiens' staff:

"I think for me, the meeting with Montreal, there were a couple of interesting questions that I got with some hypotheticals, about what I’d do in some scenarios, a little bit interesting, but also kind of fun. It was a different experience from the rest as well."

One of those interesting hypotheticals was regarding a race against current Montreal player Arber Xhekaj. Dickinson indicated that he would not back down from the challenge.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen if Montreal take a chance on Sam Dickinson at number five or if he falls into Ottawa’s lap at number seven. The hockey world will find out once this year’s Entry Draft concludes.
