Sean Avery issues rallying war cry for Rangers fans turning up at MSG ahead of vital Game 5 against Panthers
Former NHL player Sean Avery issued a rallying cry for New York Rangers fans before Game 5 against Florida Panthers at Madison Square Garden.
In a video shared by comedian Snark Messier on X, Avery called on Rangers fans to show their support and bring their energy to the game.
"Rangers Nation, all you fellow Blueshirts out there that bleed blue, let's go. We are tough, we say no quit in New York ... Madison Square Garden, I'm asking you to the best fans in Hockey," Avery said.
Avery added the NYR would prevail:
"We're gonna win this series because we're New Yorkers. 9/11, Hurricane Sandy, whatever it is, you throw it at us and we get through it...
"Don't talk shit about Blake Wheeler, it's a team effort. The New York Rangers will dig deep and do what needs to be done."
Florida Panthers 3-2 victory over New York Rangers
In Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final, the Florida Panthers secured a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.
NYR coach Peter Laviolette commented on the team's efforts to tie the game and expressed frustration over the quick overtime loss.
“Especially in the second, there was a lot of heat there, We ended up going out in the third trying to force it to get that thing tied up. We did. Just not the way we wanted to get into that in overtime that quick," Laviolette said (via NHL.com).
Panthers coach Paul Maurice observed that both teams were tight in the first period due to their desire to win.
“I thought we were tight," Maurice said. "That’s the best way I can describe it, Both teams want it so bad, they’ve invested so much hard work to get here. I just thought we were tight, and then after the first we just played. It wasn’t more coaching, I would say less."
"I don’t have a better explanation for it. I don’t think that I wind them up hard before a game, but you never know what your impact is. My conversation after the first was I thought we were tight, and we don’t play that way.”
The series will continue with Game 5 in New York on Thursday.
