"Sorry to my neighbours" - Justin Kirkland's wife Madison can't contain excitement as Flames centre scores S/O winner
Justin Kirkland was the hero for the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, scoring the game-winning goal in a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. While Flames fans celebrated the win, no one was more excited than Kirkland's wife, Madison.
She shared her excitement with a post on X. Her joy matched the energy in the arena after her husband’s shootout winner.
"SORRY TO MY NEIGHBOURS.. MY PAJAMAS ARE ON AND IM WAITING FOR HIS ARRIVAL BACK HOME 😄🕺🏼".
Madison's post was seemingly a callback to her celebration earlier this month when Justin scored his first NHL goal.
"We got back from Edmonton at midnight and she's on the front steps of the street dancing in her pajamas and smiling," Kirkland had said last week.
The Flames battled in the game with Nazem Kadri, Rasmus Andersson, and MacKenzie Weegar scoring in regulation. Goalie Dustin Wolf made 38 saves and was crucial to the win, stopping Evgeni Malkin in the shootout to secure the victory.
With this win, the Flames improved to 3-0-0 at home, and Madison Kirkland, like many Flames fans, couldn't be prouder.
Justin Kirkland opens up on incredible OT winner
In the post-game interview, Justin Kirkland opened up on how special the night was and admitted that while moments like this had been part of his dreams, there were times when it felt like it wouldn’t happen.
Kirkland mentioned being proud of the team’s comeback win, giving credit to Dustin Wolf for his great performance. He shared he was surprised when his name was called.
"I just heard my name called, and I looked back to double-check, like ‘Me? Me? Okay.' So yeah, it was exciting. I knew I had a job to do, and that was to go and try to score, and I’m happy that it went in. Wolfie made a big save on the next one, so all in all, it was a fantastic night, just living the dream," he said.
When asked about what he thinks his wife’s reaction would be, given she was standing on the front line when he scored his first goal, Kirkland laughed:
"I got a little bit of a talking-to after that one. I wasn’t expecting that to be the headline. I woke up from my nap, and she said, ‘I don’t know whether to hug you or kill you right now.' So I don’t know, we’ll see when I get home what’s waiting for me. But it’s awesome to have her support, my family’s support. Everyone’s jumping with joy right now, so it’s great."
The Flames will host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, while the Penguins continue their road trip with a visit to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
