Sports injury expert opines Trevor Zegras has jeopardized his future by choosing 'shorter recovery' for torn meniscus injury
Anaheim Ducks' 23-year-old forward Trevor Zegras is set to be out of action for approximately six weeks after undergoing knee surgery. On Thursday, senior sports analyst Elliotte Friedman took to X to advise that the Ducks forward had undergone surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus, with an estimated recovery period of six weeks:
"Anaheim's Trevor Zegras had surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He's out six weeks," Friedman said. "It's actually much, much better than was initially feared. So good news for Zegras and the Ducks, thankfully."
The injury in question, which has already caused Trevor Zegras to miss three games, was suffered in the Ducks' game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Dec. 4. The injury occurred when Zegras collided with Golden Knights forward William Karlsson during a battle in the defensive zone.
Dr. Harjas Grewal, an expert on sports injuries has voiced a serious health worry that could risk Trevor Zegras' future health. He responded to Friedman's post:
"Just FYI a repair would be much longer, around 4+ months for Zegras Likely he had the torn part cut out which is a shorter recovery now but higher risk for arthritis in the future."
This knee injury is Zegras' third serious injury, and last season he was limited to 31 games due to a broken ankle. Nevertheless, both Zegras and the Ducks management seem relieved as they hope he will be back as early as possible.
Ducks replace Trevor Zegras with Robby Fabbri
Following Trevor Zegras' meniscus surgery, the Ducks have reassigned 28-year-old Robby Fabbri. Fabbri has played 14 games so far this season but has been out since Nov. 15 due to arthroscopic knee surgery.
While Fabbri was expected to be out for six weeks, his recovery has been much swifter and he's back after just four weeks.
The Ducks are not having the best of seasons, standing at 10-14-4 and bottom of the Pacific Division. They are coming off a 3-2 defeat to the Toronto Maple Leafs and now prepare to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday evening in Ohio.
Given the Blue Jackets are similarly mired in a poor campaign, standing at 23-13-4, Anaheim will look to give their fans something to smile about here.
