In a heartfelt reflection, Meredith Gaudreau, the widow of Johnny Gaudreau, has been sharing memories of her late husband's inspirational words in the weeks following his tragic death.

The sporting community was left reeling after the devastating news broke on Aug. 29, when Johnny and his brother Matthew were fatally struck by a drunk driver while riding their bicycles in Salem County, New Jersey.

Meredith has spoken out about the profound impact Johnny had on those around him, emphasizing his positivity and encouragement. She took to Instagram to share a poignant message from Johnny that encapsulates his determination and passion for the sport:

"It took a lot of work at every level. I'm not a grinder. I'm not a gimmick. And in general, I'm just not a big guy, but I don't need to be. I'm a hockey player.
"Still inspiring me every single day, the cutest hockey player ever," Meredith captioned the post.

Connor McDavid remembers Johnny Gaudreau

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid reflected on his experience competing against Johnny Gaudreau, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to face him on the ice.

McDavid highlighted the significance of their playoff matchups and the intense "Battle of Alberta" rivalry, where they engaged in many heated battles. The Oilers captain emphasized how he got to know Gaudreau on a personal level. He said (via NHL.com):

“I’m grateful I had the chance to play against him, played playoff series against him, played many heated battles in the Battle of Alberta against him, and got to know him a little bit."

Johnny Gaudreau was drafted No. 104 overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL draft. He played for nine years and appeared in 602 games for the Flames before joining the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022–23 season.

Gaudreau played for two seasons with the Blue Jackets, appearing in 161 games. He accumulated 743 points through 243 goals and 500 assists in 763 career games throughout 11 seasons in the NHL.
