Stuart Skinner addresses heated altercation against $10,500,000 ex-Oilers forward

Stuart Skinner addressed the heated altercation with former Oilers forward Warren Foegele during Monday's matchup.

Skinner had a stellar performance in goal, making 31 saves and leading his team to a 1-0 shutout win over the LA Kings, marking his second shutout of the season.

Late in the third period, Foegele ran into Skinner while attempting to jam the puck into the crease in a bid to equalize for the Kings. With traffic in front of the net, Foegele spun Skinner around.

Skinner acknowledged the intensity of the play, noting that it was a good strategy by the Kings to get the puck into the net. He mentioned that Warren Foegele likes to mix it up, especially against familiar opponents, but emphasized the importance of stopping the puck first. When asked about the altercation with Foegele, Skinner said:

"Oh no. I mean, it's good play by them. Just get the puck to the net. He likes to rough it up, especially against guys he knows. So it's a good time to have a little laugh, but you had to make sure you stop the puck first."

Foegele joined the LA Kings as an unrestricted free agent after inking a three-year, $10.5 million deal in July last year. Before joining the Kings, the 28-year-old forward had played 231 games over three years with the Edmonton Oilers.

"It was a very much a playoff game": Stuart Skinner shared his thoughts after shutout win over Kings

On Jan. 7, the Oilers beat the Boston Bruins 4-0, but Stuart Skinner didn't receive a shutout credit. That was because he didn't complete the game after being taken off the ice by a concussion spotter.

Stuart Skinner described the win against the Kings as a playoff-like matchup, emphasizing the intensity of the game where both teams played solidly.

"They’re a heck of a team. They know how to play us as well as we know how to play them. That is what makes it so much fun and so exciting. I’m really happy that we were able to get this win, especially after they beat us last game," he said via NHL.com.

The Edmonton Oilers improved their record to 27-13-3 and 57 points after 43 games. They next face the Minnesota Wild away on Wednesday, with the puck drop scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
