NHL: Stanley Cup Final-Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers

"The other night it went in, doesn't really change anything"- Connor McDavid stresses need for consistency ahead of crunch Game 5

The Edmonton Oilers are getting ready for Game 5 against the Florida Panthers. Edmonton captain Connor McDavid mentioned at a press conference that they need to stay consistent and use the team's depth. He talked about the tough parts and the chances they have in the upcoming games.

"Just because it went in last game doesn't mean that I haven't liked certain parts of our game in other games," McDavid said. "I feel like we've generated looks, we've created chances, and it just hasn't gone in. That's not an excuse or anything, it's just the way it's gone.
"And we've got to find a way to score goals. Just because the other night it went in, doesn't really change anything. We've liked parts of our game and know that there are parts of our game we can clean up and keep building on. If we do those things, we'll be alright."

Connor McDavid's performance in Game 4 on Saturday helped the Oilers defeat the Panthers 8-1. McDavid scored a goal on two shots and added three assists. The Oilers were trailing 3-0 before the game. They now head to Florida for Game 5 on Tuesday.

McDavid also broke an NHL playoff record set by Wayne Gretzky in 1988 by scoring 32 assists this postseason. McDavid has scored 11 multi-point efforts in 22 playoff contests.

Connor McDavid has recorded six goals and 38 points, with a plus-minus rating of -9. Oilers fans will be expecting more from their captain in Game 5.

Connor McDavid is determined to extend series against Panthers

Connor McDavid is focused on improving the team's game, especially on the power play. McDavid said he hopes the Panthers would tire out from the long flights back:

“You guys know what it’s like. It’s not the most enjoyable flight. Just make them go on one more plane ride, one more flight. That’s all we can really do.
“Like I said, long flights, lots of treatment,” he said. “I don’t want to be flat.”

McDavid even expressed his enthusiasm and enjoyment for being a part of the Stanley Cup Final.

“It’s exciting, fun to be a part of,” he said. “There’s nothing else we’d rather be doing than right here, playing hockey, so we don’t want that to end, and we’re excited about the opportunity to go win a game tonight.”

The Oilers aim to join a short list of teams to force a Game 6 after a 3-0 deficit. Ultimately, they hope to replicate the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs’ historic comeback.
