"Think about Roman Empire every day"- Leafs' Max Domi spends his off-season in Rome with fiancée and friends
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi is currently on a vacation in Italy. He is there with his fiancée Estelle Phillips, enjoying the offseason. Domi took to Instagram to post pictures from his Italy visit.
First, he shared a picture of him walking in the streets of Rome. He was wearing green trousers paired with a green and white t-shirt. Next, he shared a picture of himself with Estelle. Domi being Domi, he had his tongue out while Estelle clicked the selfie.
Further, he shared pictures of him standing inside the popular Colosseum in Italy. The place has been featured in many movies. Most recently, it was seen in the movie, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The site is situated in the heart of Rome.
Drawing inspiration from the place, Domi captioned the post with these words:
“I think about the Roman Empire every day”
He also shared his shoe collection which featured Adidas and Nike products. Max Domi was also seen with New York Islanders center Bo Horvat, who was also on the trip.
The 29-year-old also clicked a picture outside the famous Italian sandwich shop, All'Antico Vinaio. It has opened its chains in many international cities. His pictures captured the sunny Italian summers, giving a new shine to Italy's beautiful buildings.
The Maple Leafs forward further shared a picture of his hotel in Itlay. He was staying at Borgo Egnazia, a luxury resort in Savelletri of Fasano.
Max Domi's four-year contract extension with Leafs gives him sense of security
One reason behind Max Domi's vacation might be his relief as his contract extension was finalized on June 30. Domi has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, carrying a $3.75 million average annual value.
This prevents him from entering free agency. Known for his strong five-on-five performance, Domi ranked among NHL leaders in assists per 60 minutes last season, despite playing relatively low minutes.
His on-ice shooting percentage reached a career-high, ranking well among forwards with significant ice time. Originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in 2013, Domi has played for multiple teams before joining the Leafs.
He logged 130 goals and 287 assists in 661 career games, with last season marking one of his most productive.
Returning to Toronto felt natural for Domi, who enjoyed his first season there and embraced the city's spotlight. The Leafs valued his stability amidst uncertainties in their roster's secondary scoring.
Seeking long-term security after years of short contracts, Domi aims to sustain his recent high-level play into his early 30s. While risks accompany any mid-career multi-year deal, his potential to maintain his current form could prove beneficial for the Maple Leafs.
