Throwbacks from Gaudreau brothers' last hockey tourney together elicit emotional reaction from Johnny Gaudreau's wife Meredith

The tragic death of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau has left the whole hockey community grieving. The Gaudreau family has since been paying tributes and remembering the memories of the beloved stars.

On Sunday, Johnny Gaudreau’s wife Meredith reshared an Instagram post from a fan account which posted some throwback pictures of the Gaudreau brother’s last Checking for Charity tournament against 43 Oak Foundation, where Johnny and Matthew played together.

“After seeing all the videos of the Gaudreau's trip to Calgary, I thought I'd throw up some photos of the boys playing together in their last Checking for Charity tournament against @43_oak_foundation,” read the caption of the post.

Meredith reposted one image of Johnny from the carousel of pictures with a heart breaking caption, as she wrote:

“Still so unbelievable. Miss u both so much ❤️”

Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew tragically lost their lives in late August when a suspected drunk truck driver struck them while they were cycling in New Jersey. Sean Higgins, the driver, now faces charges including two counts of death by auto, reckless driving, and possession of an open alcohol container. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.


Johnny Gaudreau’s wife reacts to Flames honoring late NHLer as First Star

The Calgary Flames honored the late Johnny Gaudreau in an emotional ceremony at the Scotiabank Saddledome during their 3-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. The tribute featured a heartfelt video of Gaudreau’s career highlights with the Flames and a ceremonial puck drop, with his whole family standing at center ice.

Fans cheered passionately, chanting “Johnny Hockey” in memory of the star forward who spent eight seasons in Calgary before joining Columbus in 2022.

Johnny Gaudreau was posthumously named the game’s First Star on Tuesday night. Flames captain Mikael Miakle Backlund and alternate captain Rasmus Andersson invited Johnny’s father Guy Gaudreau to step onto the ice to acknowledge the honor as he received an outpouring of love from the crowd.

Meredith Gaudreau expressed her gratitude on social media. Reacting to the moment, she wrote on X:

“Surprise ending to a really special night. I miss watching John play so much. Being at games is hard but love supporting his teammates and friends ♥️ my first star every single day forever”

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau’s mother was visibly in tears as Johnny was announced as the First Star.
