"Tried to emulate my game after him": Braden Schneider heaps praises upon 'unbelievable' Jacob Trouba amid trade rumors
Former New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba has had a profound effect on several players over his career. Braden Schneider is one of them.
Schneider recently opened up about his feelings regarding the Rangers captain amid widespread trade speculation.
Schneider had this to say about Jacob Trouba following Friday's practice:
"He's an unbelievable dude. He's the captain and I've looked up to him. I've tried to emulate my game after him."
The comments, as posted on the official 'Rangers Videos' X account, highlighted how much Trouba has influenced younger players like Schneider.
Schneider added:
“He’s been a huge help for me to grow here as a player.”
Trouba joined the New York Rangers ahead of the 2019-20 season. He was named captain during the 2022 offseason, showing his grit and determination in leading the Rangers to a Conference Finals appearance last season and a Presidents' Trophy.
His work in the community has been well known, leading the NHL to recognize his efforts with the Mark Messier Leadership Award. Jacob Trouba’s efforts have made him an indispensable part of the game, regardless of which teams he plays for.
Schneider is among a fortunate group of young players who’ve had Trouba’s positive influence shape their mindsets toward the game.
Jacob Trouba headed to Anaheim Ducks
In a stunning turn of events, the New York Rangers traded Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks, per The Hockey News.
The reported trade initially shows an underwhelming return in which the Rangers receive blueliner Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
The return is most likely influenced by the fact that the Ducks have taken on Trouba’s entire $8 million cap hit. Rangers’ GM Chris Drury stated, per The Hockey News:
“I want to sincerely thank Jacob for his contributions to the Rangers and our community.”
He would go on to add:
“Jacob has been an example on and off the ice for our organization and played a major role in our success over the last several years.”
Players like Braden Schneider will miss being around their former captain. However, that’s the business of hockey. Drury concluded his statement by saying:
“Since coming to New York five years ago, and serving as captain for the last three seasons, he has demonstrated grit, toughness, and tremendous leadership and we can’t thank Jacob enough for everything he has done for the Rangers.”
The Rangers are currently in the midst of one of the toughest seasons in recent history. They are 13-10-1 and tied for fourth place in the Metro Division with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Rangers are barely two points ahead of the last-place New York Islanders.
The club hopes this trade will give them the flexibility to pursue other deals down the road.
