"Turd of a home opener": Paul Bissonnette critiques Penguins' 6-0 loss after making all "exact-opposite" bets

ARJUN B

Hockey analyst and former NHL player Paul Bissonnette entered a promotional partnership with sportsbook DK Sportsbook to make predictions on games this season.

Before the Penguins' home opener against the New York Rangers, Bissonnette had predicted that Pittsburgh would be the first to score and also score over 3.5 goals to win.

Contrary to Bissonnette's expectations, though, the game took a turn, as the Rangers beat the Penguins 6-0 on the ice. Bissonnette tweeted:

"This but the exact opposite. What a turd of a home opener for the Penguins."

Sam Carricks and Filip Chytils goals, alongside two goals from Chris Kreider and one each from Alexis Lafreniere and Vincent Trocheck fueled the Rangers offence, with a performance by goaltender Igor Shesterkin who saved all 29 shots to secure the shutout victory.

On the other side, Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry had a rough outing, allowing sx goals on 41 shots faced.

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan dissects loss to the Rangers

Pittsburgh Penguins HC Mike Sullivan was clearly upset following the heavy defeat to the New York Rangers.

When asked about the potential for changes following the game or if it was premature to consider actions, Sullivan expressed caution and suggested that it might be too soon to jump to conclusions at this stage.

“I think it's probably premature at this point to overreact, but certainly, we're disappointed with the result tonight," Sullivan said post-game.

Sullivan acknowledged that Pittsburgh didn't have the start to the season they were hoping for but added that it was difficult to fully evaluate it based on one game.

He felt that the team played well for the first 10-15 minutes before a poor 2-3 minute stretch in the first period, where they gave up a couple goals, eventually proved to be their undoing.

Evgeni Malkin was also disappointed with the loss as he said:

"We fought back but nothing worked tonight. ... This whole team lost, and we need to focus on tomorrow. Back-to-back games, tough loss, but we need to talk a little bit tomorrow and play better."

Pittsburgh next face against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night.
