Vincent Trocheck breaks his silence on NY Rangers players meeting's rumored GM Chris Drury agenda
New York Rangers forward Vincent Trocheck has responded to rumors that the team held a players-only meeting to discuss grievances with general manager Chris Drury.
The meeting was reportedly held following the Rangers' 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, as per NHL insider Emily Kaplan. Tensions are reportedly rising in the locker room as the team struggles to meet expectations, amid trading players like Kaapo Kakko and captain Jacob Trouba.
However, Trocheck denied that any meeting focused on frustration with Drury and his recent moves.
“If we have a closed-door meeting, with just the players, I think the last that we’d do is complain about our general manager,” Trocheck told the New York Post.
Trocheck made it clear that any internal team meetings are focused on solutions for improving on-ice performance and not questioning management decisions.
“Obviously, we’re in a little bit of a hole right now, and it’s about what we can do to get out of it. It has nothing to do with management. They do their job."
Trocheck added that Drury is simply doing his job to improve the team while the players need to perform well.
"Chris is doing his job to try to put the best players on the ice to succeed. We are those players, and we have to go out there and preform. Do we what can to succeed. I just wanted to clear the air on that.
“There's a lot of stuff circulating our team right now, and when I see something like that, I don't know where it even comes from, that kind of frustrated me,” he added.
Trocheck made it clear that any locker room frustrations are directed inward at the players and not at the management.
Vincent Trocheck’s take on recent NY Rangers trades
Vincent Trocheck said that he understands the recent trades even though he's sad to see friends traded. Trocheck noted that he has been in the league 12 years and has seen many trades, both on good and bad teams.
“Obviously, for Kaap and Jake, as people, I love both those guys. You never want to see a friend go. But also, we're losing games right now. Chris (Drury) has a job. You can't just sit there and let us continue to lose and do nothing. His job is on the line, as well,” Vincent Trocheck said.
Vincent Trocheck explained that it's Drury's job to put the right players on the ice to help the team win. Trocheck emphasized that you have to win games if you want to keep everyone. After losing 11 of their last 14 games, the Rangers are 15-15-1 on the season.
They next face the Dallas Stars on Friday.
