Chaos ensued at Madison Square Garden after Florida Panthers' Niko Mikkola collided with New York Rangers' Igor Shesterkin in an attempt to take possession of the puck. After the collision, Erik Gustafsson took offense to Mikkola's collision and went at him.
Two more Rangers players were looking to hold Mikkola accountable when some Panthers players rushed into the scrum, escalating it to a push-and-shove contest. Multiple players were down on the ice as a result.
Watch the incident here:
Niko Mikkola was subsequently handed a two-minute penalty for goalie interference and Gustafsson was also handed a two-minute penalty for roughing. Notably, the Florida Panthers were already down a man and had just conceded a shorthanded goal to Chris Kreider.
But, the Panthers successfully killed the penalty with a man disadvantage after staving off a possible 5-on-3 which was avoided due to Gustafsson's roughing penalty.
