Watch: David Pastrnak smashed into boards by Chris Tanev, captain Brad Marchand attacks Leafs D-man in retaliation
There was a heated incident late in the first period of Tuesday's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins involving Chris Tanev, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand.
With just over three-minute left in the opening frame, the Leafs defenceman Tanev delivered a hard hip check on Pastrnak, sending the Bruins forward crashing dangerously into the boards near the Leafs net.
Marchand, Pastrnak's teammate, immediately took exception to the hit and accosted Tanev, grappling the Leafs defenseman's head to take him down to the ice. This led to both teams joining the scrum and referees separating the players before things could further escalate.

Tanev received boarding and roughing penalties on the play for his hit on David Pastrnak, while Marchand was assessed a roughing minor for his retaliation on Tanev.
At the end, the Bruins lost 4-0 shutout to the Maple Leafs.
David Pastrnak's comments after the Bruins' 4-0 loss to the Maple Leafs
After being shutout by the Toronto Maple Leafs, David Pastrnak voiced his frustration with the team's performance.
"Honestly, it was a tough loss today but I feel like we’ve been right there for the most part of the game," Pastrnak said. "Special teams obviously hurt us today. We didn’t do the job on the power play and they did.
"We end up taking penalty and make it four and four, you know. So didn't create the momentum, how I said special things. We didn't do the job today," he said.
William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Matthew Knies and Steven Lorentz scored for the Leafs. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz made 28-saves while Bruins Jeremy Swayman stopped 23 stops in the loss.
The Bruins will look to rebound on Thursday when they take on the Calgary Flames.
