Watch: Connor McDavid shows off wakeboarding skills hours after Mark Zuckerberg's viral 4th of July video
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid was left hanging inches away from having the perfect finale to the 2023-24 season that could have seen him lift the Stanley Cup. However, it seems the Finals heartbreak has worn off and McDavid is having a blast in the offseason.
Conor McDavid recently went sailing and waterboarding with his fiancee Kyle Lauren. Lauren shared a picture with McDavid on a yacht where the Oilers captain was possibly preparing to go waterboarding.
She then shared a clip where he was seen expertly waterboarding right behind their yacht. The clip was eerily similar to Mark Zucherberg’s viral surfing video. Though the two events are unrelated, the videos have been making rounds on the internet.
The original video showed Zuckerberg in a tuxedo, holding a tallboy beer in one hand and an American flag in the other, while surfing to Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 hit song “Born in the U.S.A.” playing in the background. The co-founder of Facebook shared the clip across his social media accounts on Thursday, July 4th.
Fans react to Connor McDavid’s waterboarding clip
Kyle Lauren’s Instagram story featuring Connor McDavid waterboarding behind their yacht has since been reposted across various social media platforms by netizens. Fans were quick to react to it and let their opinions known in the comments.
While some praised McDavid’s skills, others threw jabs at the player on social media. They pointed out that the Oilers forward was said to be injured and reportedly went through surgery lately–which seemed untrue in light of his recent adventures.
Following are some fan reactions from X:
“Proof you can be a loser but still be happy being a loser. How did anyone think this was a good look so soon?”
“Lol so he isn’t injured? Excuses excuses excuses. Don’t think i’d post that pal,” commented one user.
“Good thing you don’t need a cup to play this sport,” quipped one fan.
Meanwhile, some fans defended McDavid in the face of the criticism. Some even lauded his water-skiing skills.
“Guy just living his life and ppl just have to hate💀,” wrote one fan.
“This is a breeze for the GOAT, he's usually stickhandling with the other hand,” commented another user.
“My guess is he is laying down 360’s before the summer is done. Shred McD!!” wrote another fan.
Connor McDavid is enjoying his summer in the offseason. But ahead of the 2024-25 season, McDavid and his team will have some good regrouping to do before they set off for another possible high-achieving season.
