Watch: Kris Knoblauch loses his cool after referees wave off Panthers' potential puck over glass penalty
Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch was visibly frustrated over a potential puck-over-glass penalty being waved off in the Stanley Cup Final. The head coach let his frustrations be heard and seen on a video that has now gone viral.
At the time, the Oilers were tied with the Florida Panthers 1-1 near the end of the second period. The Oilers would go on to surrender three unanswered goals in the third period to lose and fall behind two games to none.
Knoblauch gestured wildly to the referees, his face bright red with anger. The call did not go his way despite a conversation between the referees. It would have given Edmonton a huge five-on-three advantage, something that could have completely changed the tide of the game and the series.
Instead, the Oilers couldn't capitalize on the power play they already had and eventually succumbed to a late onslaught by Florida. They will head back to Edmonton hoping to stave off defeat and return to Florida again with a chance to win the Stanley Cup.
Kris Knoblauch opens up on potential injuries for Oilers
Darnell Nurse suffered an undisclosed injury in the Edmonton Oilers' latest loss. Head coach Kris Knoblauch doesn't believe the defenseman is going to miss a lot of time moving forward.
Knoblauch said after the game via the NHL:
“He’s getting looked at right now. He was on the bench. Yeah, I think he’ll be good to play, but he’s getting looked at, so I don’t have an update.”
Nurse wasn't the only loss suffered in the game, though. Warren Foegele was given a major penalty early on, and that impacted the game.
Knoblauch added:
“We missed Foegele with his speed, having four lines. The amount of penalties took away the flow of the game a little bit but I think we weren’t as efficient breaking the puck out as we were in the first game.”
Foegele should be back on the ice in full force for Game 3. However, the status is uncertain at the moment for Nurse's return.
